The excitement and tension that accompanies the beginning of a new academic session was palpable on the faces of students at the campus of the CEPT University on Monday morning. The excitement was to meet new batch mates and the tension to get best accommodation at the hostel; which roughly translates to a room with a window and best friend as roomie. The fresh batch of students of post-graduate programme of faculty of planning and public policy looked full of energy at the time of its first introduction late in the day.

Students from across the country made it to the masters programme after a tough admission process. The youngsters, who were visibly glad, were accompanied by their parents to help them with the registration and lodging facilities.

"I am very happy that my daughter has made it to CEPT. She plans to study further and I feel this university will serve as the right platform," said Namrata Sharma, mother of Prachi, who will be studying rural planning. "I am very thrilled to be here. Over the years, this institute has built its image. I am not able to explain it as the name itself is enough," said Prachi, a resident of Jaipur.

She added that the introduction session helped her understand the institute and the city better. "We were given a lecture on the important places of Ahmedabad and a basic know-how. It was also an opportunity to meet fellow batch-mates and to know from them."

Like many other students, Prachi was hoping to find a room with her rural planning friend whom she had met at the time of admission test.

Hansa Gohel, who was handling the hostel accommodation facility, was swarmed with students. "For us, every student is equal. Every parent wants best rooms for their daughter. I have been getting request since morning but I try my best to make everyone feel comfortable."

Professor Utpal Sharma, dean, faculty of planning & public policy said that the students will have one-week orientation before the actual course. "We have close to 150 students from all over India. We will have one-week orientation starting Tuesday which will involve visits to different sites around the city and Gandhinagar and also other important structures."
