Apart from print and electronic media — the traditional mediums for advertisement — realtors have also been using the internet to market projects. They say that in cyberspace, advertisements have a longer life and they can be accessed by customers from across the world. Moreover, internet advertisements can provide more information about projects to attract buyers.

With growing internet penetration in India, developers have been using this medium effectively. Not only realtors but real estate consultants also are advertising their services on various websites dedicated to the property trade.

“The internet is relatively very economical as an advertisement medium. Advertisements put out in cyberspace are around for much longer than is possible with other media,” said Yogesh Bhavsar, vice-president of Gujarat Institute of Housing and Estate Developers (GIHED).

Moreover, internet advertising gives the customer an opportunity to do research about builders and their projects, he said. He can then prepare a shortlist as per his requirements and at his convenience, he said.

Bhavsar also said that the internet is much more effective when it comes to attracting people living in other cities or NRI customers.
“NRIs come to India for a short while. It is not possible to search for property of their choice in the short time they are here in India. Hence they carry out research on the internet and make a shortlist of property before making further enquiry,” he said. Turn to p6
