With government refusing to yield to the demand for a joint parliamentary committee probe into second-generation mobile telephony spectrum issue, the NDA today said it will take its "fight against corruption" to the streets and will stage a rally here on December 22 along with other opposition parties.

"This is not an NDA rally. This will be an entire opposition rally. We will organise it in Delhi on December 22. The plan is to take the opposition's fight against corruption to the entire country," JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav told reporters here.

He refused to entertain questions on whether Left will participate in the rally but added, "Effort will be to ensure the entire opposition agitates on the issue on the same day".

The NDA is hoping that the agitation would be a rallying point for all opposition parties on the lines of July 5 Bharat Bandh against price hike.

The opposition parties minus the Left will also stage a demonstration in Parliament premises on December 13, the last day of the Winter session.

"The Left will not participate in the demonstration. We will talk to parties (other than NDA), who would join the agitation," Yadav, who is also NDA convenor, said.

He dismissed the government's decision to appoint a one-man committee of retired Supreme Court justice Shivaraj V Patil to probe the alleged irregularities in the allocation of 2G spectrum since 2001, a period involving the NDA regime.

"It is useless," the JD(U) chief said, adding it was the feeling of the entire opposition.

"Why do you (government) want to hide your face from Parliament. The decision to appoint this committee is simply aimed at deflecting attention," he said.

He said the entire opposition had agreed to get the telecom spectrum issue probed since 1998 during the first all-party meeting chaired by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee.

"Had our intentions not been clear, why would we agree to such a probe since 1998 when NDA was in power. In the first meeting, DMK's TR Balu had said if JPC is constituted it should probe spectrum issue since 1998 to which I and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj had readily agreed. Even UPA allies DMK, TMC and NCP were agreeable to such a probe."

He said that this time, the JPC would have been a balanced body as despite having its chairman from the ruling UPA, there would not have been any government dominance as the opposition outnumbers the UPA in Rajya Sabha.
