National Highway-10 widening work begins

As part of efforts to strengthen road network ahead of the Commonwealth Games, Delhi Government today started work on widening of National Highway 10 which connects the city to towns like Hissar, Rohtak and Bhiwani.

The project to widen 17 km-long stretch from Punjabi Bagh to Tikri Border was today launched by chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

Dikshit said PWD has undertaken strengthening of all major roads connecting neighbouring states as part of its efforts to improve the transport network in the city ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Under the project, the Delhi-Rohtak road from Punjabi Bagh to Mundka will be converted to an eight-lane road from current six lane.

The portion from Mundka to Tikri border will also be strengthened.

Officials said service roads and drains would also be constructed on the stretch.

Dikshit said widening of 17 km of the road will help in easing the traffic volume.

An amount of Rs52.87 crore has already been released for the project.

PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said the entire length of 450 kms of PWD road in Delhi is being strengthened and upgraded.
