Narmada dam overflows in Gujarat; alert in Bharuch

Sardar Sarovar dam on Narmada river continues to overflow on the second day as heavy inflow remains unabated from the upstream areas in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, district authorities in Bharuch sounded alert in the downstream areas and directed the administration to remain alert in case of floods. According to official sources, the dam with a height of 121.91 meter is overflowing at 126.46 while inflow continues over at 5.5 lakh cusec water following release of water from Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dams on the same river in Madhya Pradesh.

Bharuch district collector Arti Kanwar held a meeting with the officials and directed the administration in Jhagadia, Ankleshwar and Hansot blocks to keep a watch on the flood situation. Meanwhile, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL) sources told PTI that due to heavy inflow, the dam will continue overflowing for two more days.
