Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi joined nearly 300 students at Gandhinagar for group reading - 'Vanche Gujarat' campaign organised by the state government. Modi arrived at central library in Gandhinagar and was escorted to the reading room by the state education department's principal secretary Hasmukh Adhia and the secretary of culture, sports and youth affairs department Bhagyesh Jha.

The CM brought with him a centenary edition of Mahatma Gandhi's 'Hind Swaraj,' to read. It contained Gandhi's manuscript of Hind Swaraj printed in Gujarati, English and Hindi.

Soon after Modi's arrival, the group reading began. Interestingly, many children occupied seats nearby CM to read with him. Even Modi's security guards were given books to read.

However, half of them were more interested in doing their job. Despite the fact that they held books in their hands, they were keeping a constant vigil. So immersed was Modi in reading that he began taking notes from the book.

Initially everybody started reading the book which they preferred. But after a while, students were bored and lost their concentration in reading. They started smiling at each other.

Even senior citizens were not interested in reading books. Outside the reading hall, many secondary school students were given children's story books to read.

Addressing the media after the event, CM said that Hind Swaraj is one of his favourite books written by Bapu. He said, "India has always worshiped different forms of knowledge. Today, when this age is considered as 'information' age, unique programmes like this will serve in acquiring greater knowledge."
