Narendra Modi set to hit campaign trail, this time for the taluka polls in Gujarat

The chief minister has planned 21 public meetings; is busy getting party organisation in shape.

Chief minister Narendra Modi is all set to ensure that the BJP repeats its stellar performance of the municipal corporation elections. This time, his target is the upcoming district panchayat, taluka panchayat and municipality polls.

To achieve his target, the chief minister has planned 21 public meeting and is busy setting the party organization in motion to ensure a public mandate in favour of the Saffron party.

Modi, while addressing a victory rally on Sunday, advised party worker to be polite, not to be overconfident and serve the public to the best of their abilities. He has already started addressing public rallies in key areas of the state.

The district panchayat, taluka panchayat and municipality polls are scheduled to be held on October 21 and Modi has already addressed 15 public meetings so far. He plans to conduct another six rallies in key areas where the party organisation needs to strengthen its base. "We have got a clean sweep in urban areas and it is important to have a strong presence in rural areas too," said a source in the BJP.

"We don't want to leave our victory to chance," the source said. The party has already strengthened its urban base by winning Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar municipal corporations. Now the party is eyeing the rural and semi urban areas.

By ensuring that it remains popular, the BJP is also planning for the upcoming assembly polls scheduled to held in 2012.

In his public meetings, Modi has been targeting the Congress both at the local and national level. He also talks of BJP's development plans through the government's various programmes like Garib Kalyan Mela, water and irrigation plans and welfare schemes for farmers. In his public meetings in Saurashtra, Modi has criticised the UPA for imposing tax and banning exports of cotton crop.

During the municipal corporation elections, Modi had addressed as many as 30 public meetings in which he raised the issue of misuse of CBI, Sohrabuddin encounter case and failure of Congress at the national level.

According to sources, Modi had been suffering from mild cold and cough but is now actively involved in the election battle despite fasting for Navratri.
