Nadiad to host Gujarat Independence Day celebrations

In an ongoing practice of celebrating state-level Independence Day at different district headquarters, the state government will celebrate the 65th Independence Day at Nadiad - the district headquarter of Kheda district.

Nitin Patel, state urban development minister, announced the state government's decision on Wednesday at the state secretariat. The BJP government is celebrating national days viz.
Independence Day, Republic

Day and various state government functions, including May 1 -
Gujarat's formation day and Van Mahotsav in different districts instead of in the state capital Gandhinagar.

Patel elaborated, “As per the tradition and policy decision
of the state government, the district where these national festivals are celebrated, is given a special grant of Rs1 crore in addition to the regular grants by the state government.

Moreover, the idea of celebrating such festivals at different district headquarters is to involve local citizens and administration. The CM will inaugurate and dedicate various development activities to the people of Kheda district.”

The state government has earlier celebrated Independence Day at Patan (2003), Anand (2004), Himmatnagar, Sabarkantha district (2005), Dahod (2006), Mehsana (2007), Palanpur (2008), Rajpipla, Narmada district (2009) and in Rajkot (2010) as state-level functions.
