In a major success, Jammu & Kashmir police arrested on Thursday one of the most wanted stone-throwers.
Police said Mohammad Altaf Sheikh alias Shera, who was allegedly involved in abetting and organising stone-pelting and intimidating shopkeepers to observe shutdowns, was absconding for a long time. He was apprehended from the Abi Guzar area of Civil Lines in Srinagar in the evening.
“He had reportedly recently attacked a waiter in a local hotel,” a police spokesman said.
He said some people tried to enter into a scuffle with police when they went to arrest Shera, but the mob dispersed after some shots were fired from a pump action gun.
