Chief minister Narendra Modi, who has not filled up political postings in most of the boards, corporations and district and taluka bodies since 2002, has started rectifying this alleged 'error', which party insiders say was one the reasons for the party's poor show in the last general elections. He has already started appointing party leaders and workers of different ranks and at his behest more than 20 Bhartiya Majdur Sangh (BMS) leaders were appointed silently recently.

These BMS leaders were inducted into the Gujarat Council of Vocational Training, Gujarat Labour Advisory Board, Employee Welfare Board, Minimum Wage Board and Construction Labour Board. A senior BMS leader who got appointed in two of these organisations said that these appointments were pending for a long time. "We were expecting it before the Lok Sabha elections but the government could not do it then. The posts of chairman and other political posts are still lying vacant, which are likely to be filled up in the coming one or two months," he said.

A very senior state BJP leader, who did not wish to be quoted, told DNA that the party is likely to exert pressure on the Modi government for filling up political postings at various levels to boost morale of party leaders and workers. He is also contemplating of appointing party workers to help strengthen the party at various levels.

Gujarat has around 50 prominent boards and corporations, in which around eight political posts were filled up every time. If the government starts appointing again, around 400 to 500 senior leaders can get prominence. "Modi's move to fill these long pending vacant posts will also help in rebuilding the environment of trust and motivation among party ranks," the leader added. Apart from these there are around 125 more state-level bodies where around eight middle-level party workers were appointed; but, most of these posts are also lying vacant for a long time. If these posts are filled up, around 1,000 middle-level leaders would enjoy some prominence.
