Union minister Sriprakash Jaiswal has asked National Human Right Commission to intervene into the alleged sexual assault on a 12-year-old school girl, who later died.
"In a letter to NHRC chairman KG Balakrishnan, I have asked him to intervene in the case and get the investigation done by the CBI so that the culprits are brought to book and the credibility of NHRC is established," Jaiswal said.
The coal minister also accused the Uttar Pradesh government and its investigative agency CB-CID of being complacent.
National Commission for Women (NCW) chairman Girija Vyas will arrive in Kanpur on November one to look into the matter, the Congress MP from Kanpur had earlier said.
The 12-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted at Bharatiya Gyan Sthali School in Kalyanpur area here on September 27 after which she died at a hospital the same day, according to the victim's family.
