After casting his magical spell on audience across the world for nearly 61 years, renowned magician K Lal passed away in Ahmedabad early on Sunday, owing to old age-related problems, a family member said. He was 88 and is survived by his wife Pushpa, a son and two daughters.
A master of illusions, Lal was born in Bagasra near Rajkot in Gujarat in January 1924. Lal personally performed in all the nearly 22,400 shows he held across the world—a world record. There is a company in London which has staged the same play, Mousetrap, for nearly 60 years but the actors have changed. As a one-man show, Lal was the only one to last this long.
Talking about K Lal, the great Raj Kapoor had once said: “If you examine his blood, you will find nothing but magic in it.”
