The Karanj Police arrested one person with Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). The notes were in the denomination of 100 and 50. The arrested man was trying to purchase a watch from a shop near Bhadra Temple at around 9:45 pm on Monday.

The arrested man has been identified as Bhimsi Barot, a resident of Mandvi Kutch. Five FICNs of 100 and one of 50 were recovered from him. The investigation in the case has been given to the Detection of Crime Branch(DCB).  Sources in DCB said the notes are a poor imitation and seemed to be made from colour photo copy machines. Sources said the paper quality of the notes is also very low. “It could be part of a big FICN syndicate or just an attempt at earning some quick bucks. We are investigating the matter,” said the source.

Sources in the police department told DNA that Barot was trying to purchase a watch from the shop. “The shopkeeper had some doubts about the notes that he were given and hence called the police,” a source said. Barot, in his statement to the police, had said that a bus passenger had given him the currency note in return for a change. Barot said he was in Ahmedabad to do Diwali shopping.
