Judge, RN Mallick of Ahmedabad rural court has awarded seven years imprisonment to a man in connection with a dowry death case. Kalaji Thakore was convicted for provoking his sister-in-law, Kashi Thakore to kill herself.
As per the case details, Kashi married Sambhuji Thakore in 1993. However, Kashi’s in-laws started abusing her for dowry. On March 6, 1998, Kashi tried to commit suicide by dousing herself with kerosene. Kashi was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Kashi’s brother lodged a complaint against Kashi’s mother-in-law and brother-in-law. The court awarded seven years imprisonment to Kalaji and a fine of Rs 10,000 while the mother-in-law was acquitted on the grounds of lack of evidence.
