Mammen Mathew appointed 'Malayala Manorama' chief editor

Mammen Mathew today assumed charge as chief editor and managing editor of Malayala Manorama.

Mammen who has 44 years of experience in publication is the eldest son of late KM Mathew who was chief editor of Malayala Manorama.

After completing his post-graduation from St Stephen's College, New Delhi, Mammen underwent training in Times of India, and joined Malayala Manorama as its Delhi correspondent, a release said.

In 1968 he became a reporter for the Western Mail in Cardiff in United Kingdom. 

He also worked in the Sunday Times under Sir Harold Evans, who was its editor.

Later, Mammen worked as a reporter for the Oklahoma City Times and the Daily Oklahoma. In 1970 he became the resident editor of Manorama Kozhikode Unit. 

In 1980 he had taken over as general manager and managing editor of Malayala Manorama, Kottayam and in 1988 he became the editor and managing director.

Mammen was the president of Editors Guild of India and the Indian Newspaper Society.

He also served as chairman of Indian chapter of the Commonwelath Press Union. He held office twice as a member of the Press Council of India.

He is a membner of the prime minister's National Integration Council and National Security Council Advisory Board.  He is the first India director trustee of Thomson Reuters Founders Share company.
