Four suspected naxals have been detained by the Madhya Pradesh police in Shahdol district, officials said today.

"We picked up seven persons after they alighted from a train following a tip off from our counterparts in Chhattisgarh," Shahdol superintendent of police Lakhanlal Ahirwar said.

"Of the seven, four have admitted to be naxals and are being quizzed further to know their links and plans," he said. A team of Chhattisgarh police is expected to reach Shahdol by this evening to interrogate them.

The SP said that the Chhattisgarh police had tipped them that some naxals of that state were coming over to Shahdol following the operation "Red Hunt" launched against them there. The naxals were tipped to come to Shahdol and work as labourer to conceal their identity.

The SP did not reveal any details about the naxals saying that would hinder the investigations.

The four detained persons - all of them tribals between the age group of 25 to 30 - had sneaked in Shahdol from Narayanpur district in Chhattisgarh, officials said.
