Finally winter is at our doorstep and cold waves are just round the corner. The weather experts' advice is to start fishing out for semi-woollens. Shopping for stylish stoles to match with the Diwali season won’t be a bad idea as winter is here to stay.

With the end of the monsoon, the state's weather office forecasts a drop of about 5 degrees in the maximum temperatures during the month of November. So get ready to chill out in the coming  festival of lights.

With this, the maximum temperature which is 34 degree Celsius recorded in the end of October, is expected to come down to 29 by next month. Correspondingly, the wind pattern has witnessed a shift from south westerly to north westerly to chilly north westerly.

Dr Kamaljit Ray, director of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said, "A drop of about 5 degrees in the maximum temperature in the end of October usually occurs in the month of November. And night temperatures are expected to fall further.

During the entire winter season running from November to January, a stiff dip of about 4 to 11 degrees in the maximum temperature is observed to have occurred in the state, while the minimum temperature usually drops by 11 to 17 degrees during the same period. "

In October, the maximum temperature remains on the high side and the night temperature dips. However in November, both maximum and minimum temperature starts to fall and evenings becomes chiller. "Currently, the minimum temperatures have dropped from 27 degrees in first week of October to 22 degrees and is expected to fall further during the first week of November, marking the start of winter in the state," added Ray.

December 15 to January 15 is the coldest phase of winter in the state. However, with the recently observed decreasing number of cold waves in the state, the winter is said to be falling short of bringing shivers throughout the season in the state since last couple of years, say weather analysts.
