Hanif Bata and Anwar Khan Pathan Shaikh, key accused in the Kalupur Building collapse case had moved a bail plea before the city civil and sessions court. The court has reserved its order on the application and has scheduled it for Friday.

In the petition, Gulab Khan Pathan, advocate for Bata and Shaikh, said that both of them have been falsely implicated in the case. He further argued that as the investigation is over and the chargesheet has been filed by the police, the accused should be released on bail.

However, Sudhir Brahmbhatt chief public prosecutor, sessions court argued that the accused had ignored the rules and regulations of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and constructed the now collapse building using inferior quality materials. 

On January 28, Siddhika Apartment in Saudagar ni Pol had collapsed due to faulty construction. Five residents of the building died and 17 others were injured.

The crime branch had filed a chargesheet in the case against Mehboob Salim alias Salim Bata, Mehboob Beg alias Mehboob Senior, Mehboob Hanif alias Hanif Bata, Salim Mansuri, Mahmad Munaf Alias Munaf Bata and Anwarkhan Pathan Shaikh. All the accused were booked under section 304, 338, 337, 427, and 34 of IPC along with Section 267 (1) (2) of the Mumbai provincial Municipal Corporation Act, 1949.
