As several DMK men face police scanner over alleged land grabbing charges, party patriarch M Karunanidhi today charged Chief Minister Jayalalithaa with adopting a 'wrong approach to wreck vengeance' on his party and "deriving pleasure out of foisting cases".

In a letter to DMK cadre, he said, "The police have registered false cases against DMK leaders such as former ministers Veerapandi S Arumugam, K N Nehru and other partymen. Especially, Arumugam is recuperating after some medical treatment. They are trying to derive pleasure in the name of interrogating him for three days."

Arumugam, considered DMK strongman in the Salem region, was questioned by police for three days this week in a land grabbing complaint against him after a court allowed his custodial interrogation.

Recalling various instances, he said Jayalalithaa had 'foisted' such false cases, including on him and his son MK Stalin, during her earlier regimes.

Referring to his midnight arrest in 2001 by the Jayalalithaa government, Karunanidhi said none of those cases stood the court's scrutiny which was evident enough to prove that she possessed an "avenging attitude against DMK".

"Jayalalithaa has taken the wrong tool to wreck vengeance on DMK. It is a double-edged sword. Her present activities only show she is an expert in foisting cases and she derives some kind of pleasure from that," he charged.

He also criticised her for arresting DMK men on land grab charges covering the previous 2006-11 regime, while 'sparing' her partymen facing similar allegations during the same period. The AIADMK government has set up special police cells to deal with land grabbing complaints.
