They came they saw and were left awed by Gujarat. The scene is of a mall in Ahmedabad that has 21 school boys from Jammu and Kashmir jumping with joy. The kids, in the age group of 8 to 14 years, were part of a Bharat Darshan Tour organised by the Gujarat Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF).

Earlier, the BSF had also facilitated a similar tour of 18 girls from the northern state. As a part of the trip, the children were taken to various historical and tourist places in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. This included the Sabarmati Ashram, Science City and Akshardham Temple. The children also visited the border area of Koteshwar and Creek along with the Rann Utsav of Dharoda and learnt about the culture of Gujarat. They also fully enjoyed the boating. The entire expense for the trip was borne by the BSF.

But it was a round of the Big Bazaar mall in the city that had the children dancing with delight.

"Some 50% of the students in this group belong to remote areas of J&K. The tour is our way of familiarising them with the rest of India and also allowing them to get to know what BSF does," said AK Sinha, IPS, IG, Gujarat Frontier, BSF. Another officer who accompanied the children on their tour said several of them travelled in a train for the first time.

"I brought a pair of goggles and a JCB truck for my younger brother. I loved the Gandhi Ashram. But it was the mall that I liked the best," said Ali Asagar, 13.

Summit Sharma, 13, a student of government high school in Samba district gave a thank you note at the end of the event. He said the mall remained the high-point of his tour. The children also met chief minister Narendra Modi as a part of their visit. Modi talked to them about the various development activities undertaken by the state government.

An officer who accompanied the children said they will now leave for Delhi, and later visit Agra and Amritsar, before heading back home.
