International seminar on Frontiers of stem cell and biotechnology

To expose students to basic research in stem cells and biotechnology and clinical trials, the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TNVASU) today organised an international seminar on "Frontiers of Stem Cell and Biotechnology in Human and Veterinary Medicine."

More than 300 student delegates in disciplines like medical, veterinary, dental, biotechnology and life sciences from India and abroad are taking part in the two-day programme,which also aims to expose them to clinical applications of techniques of regenerative medicine and stem cell based therapy, TNVASU Vice Chancellor Dr P Thangaraju said at the inaugural.

He said the seminar would concentrate on stemcell research, biotechnology, gene therapy, extra cellular matrix and clinical approaches to various degenerative diseases through 30 lectures from eminent faculty and collaborators from TNVASU, Nichi-In Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Virgina-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicina, US.

Claiming that regenerative medicine would "rule the world" in health care for the next 50 years, he said research was in progress to devise an implantable minature bio artificial kidney using nano technology which would perform its function.
