Install CCTVs in all multi-storied buildings, orders Mamata

The orders came in following an incident of loot in an apartment in North Kolkata which led to the death of a 90-year-old woman.

West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee Wednesday expressed concern at the incident of a dacoity in a city apartment leading to the death of a woman and directed the police to ensure CCTV and alarm system were installed in all multi-story apartments.

Banerjee called up the city police commissioner RK Pachnanda and asked him to ensure that CCTV and alarm system were installed.

Later Pachnanda said, "The chief minister is concerned about the security in all high rise buildings and multiplexes. It is a request that the owners and the residents of those buildings install CCTV, alarm system "magic eye" and other security gadgets and follow the advice given by the police from time to time".

Pointing out that it was mandatory for apartment owners to fill up certain forms to provide the necessary information about their tenants, Pachnanda appealed to the owners letting out their flats to comply with this formality in their own interest.

A 90-year old woman who was gagged and tied up by robbers along with her daughter-in-law and maid at her flat in North Kolkata died of suffocation.
