India, Bangladesh organising film festival on 1971 liberation war

India and Bangladesh are jointly organising a film festival which would feature movies made on subjects related to the historic event.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the 1971 war of liberation of Bangladesh, India and Bangladesh are jointly organising a film festival which would feature movies made on subjects related to the historic event.

The festival, which will begin in the Capital tomorrow, has been titled 'Bangladesh War of Liberation in Celluloid". It would feature six movies in all and 'Matir Moina' (The Clay Bird) has been chosen as the opening film.

Other Bangladeshi films which are a part of the festival package are 'Khelaghar', 'Joyjatra', Khondo Golpo', 'Amar Bondhu Rashed' and 'Guerilla.'

Mahbub Hasan Saleh, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Delhi, told reporters that screening of these movies had been held in Kolkata in December last year and Agartala in February this year.

Saleh said that he and his colleagues from the Bangladesh High Commission had been overwhelmed by the response.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Kumar Jain of the Directorate of Film Festivals said that the show was being organised jointly by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Bangladesh High Commission.

Bangladesh High Commissioner in India Tariq A Karim and Secretary in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry Uday Kumar Varma would jointly inaugurate the festival at Siri Fort auditorium here tomorrow.
