The names of the 123 officials were released in the first lot: the CVC had advised major penalty or recommended prosecution sanction against them.
For the first time, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has put out on its website a list of 123 government officials it wants penalised or prosecuted for corruption. The list was compiled in July. Until now, the CVC had been making public only the number of allegedly corrupt officials, not their names.
The cabinet secretary, sources say, has asked secretaries in various ministries to not delay sanction for the prosecution of corrupt officials, warning that the CVC would make public the names of the officials shielded by their departments.

Major penalty has been advised against 101 babus, including senior officers. The Delhi Development Authority, which looks after land development in the capital, has the highest number of officials on the list — 13 — followed by 12 from the State Bank of India.
Major penalty has also been recommended against nine officials each from the ministry of railways and the New India Assurance Company Ltd. ONGC has 11 officials on the list.
The CVC has advised “issuance of sanction for prosecution” against the remaining 22.
These include four IPS officers posted with the ministry of home affairs, seven from the Central Board of Direct Taxes and two from the Indian Forest Service. Sources said the CVC is now working on updating the list with the names of officials whose departments have not yet granted sanction for prosecution or from whom the recommended penalties have not been recovered. The updated lists would soon be put out on the website as part of the commission’s fight against corruption.
Last week, chief justice KG Balakrishnan and law minister Veerappa Moily had expressed concern about the delay in sanction to prosecute corrupt officials.
