Former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa scampered back to jail on his own on Wednesday morning, after trying all possible means to avoid jail on Tuesday.

The about-turn by the BJP leader came within 12 hours of Dr B Natraj, interim superintendent of Victoria Hospital stating that he “will be kept under observation for 24 hours”.

The adverse media blitzkrieg against Yeddyurappa as he tried to move from one hospital to another to avoid jail has drawn serious displeasure of party’s national leadership. BJP patriarch LK Advani, was particularly embarrassed as his Rath Yatra against corruption is on its way to Karnataka.

Comments by Advani about corruption and its impact on the state unit is a major factor for his decision to return to jail.

A section of the doctors in Victoria too, it is said, expressed apprehension of getting reprimanded by court, if they were forced to provide false information on his health to the court.

A decision on Yeddyurappa going to jail was taken around 7am after a meeting with his trusted lieutenant V Somanna. Then he was ushered into an ambulance at 10.30 am and taken to Parappana Agrahara jail.

“Yeddyurappa has decided to head to jail as he has been pained by the slanderous media reports questioning the authenticity of his illness. He would like to undergo legal action like any other ordinary citizen,” Somanna said.

Ministers Renukacharya, Somanna, and son BY Raghavendra and other close aides met him in jail. But Yeddyurappa decided to avoid meeting other aides who come to meet him, sources said.
Another theory doing the rounds is that Yeddyurappa does not want the court to deny him bail on the grounds that he violated rules by being admitted to hospitals and meeting his aides there.
