Even as faculties of IITs are seen repeatedly shooting down the MHRD’s proposal of JEE reforms, the alternative discussed at the Joint Admission Board (JAB) meeting on Saturday seems to be receiving support from faculties.

Now all eyes are set on the IIT Council meeting to be held on Wednesday, in Delhi. With the council meeting happening before the IIT Bombay’s scheduled date (July 5) of senate meeting, the discussions at the senate are likely to be in a different direction if the formula is approved by the IIT Council.

The compromise formula includes a proposal to take top 20-30 students based on percentile ranking of respective boards for preparing the merit list. This percentile criterion will replace the present format of giving weightage to board marks.

Percentile criterion, along with performance in the JEE-Main, will be used for selecting around 50,000 students. Their score at the advanced test conducted by IITs will be taken into account to prepare the merit list for admission to IITs.
