IIMA cycle rally for greener Ahmedabad

Rally organised by Prakriti club to be supported by Bakeri builders.

After taking up initiatives to make its campus greener and highlighting Ahmedabad city at the Copenhagen climate change summit, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad will now participate in an environmental awareness cycle rally in the city,  organised by Prakriti club of IIMA and Sepia and supported by Bakeri Builders. Many students and faculty members of the institute will drive cycles on the streets of the city in the awareness rally.

Other than the professors and students of IIMA, the rally, which will be held on February 7, will also feature scientists from ISRO, government officials and foreign students.

Talking about the rally, alumnus from the PGP batch of 2008-2009 Siddhartha Priya who is one of the organizers of the event said, “The rally is aimed to raise awareness about environmental issues like planting more trees and need to shift to cycling to reduce carbon emission."

Talking about the participants at the rally Priya said, “Many faculty members of IIMA and students will be taking part. ISRO staff have also shown great interest in  the initiative and will be joining the rally. We have around 40 to 50 participants now."

The rally, which is open to the public, will take off from the IIMA campus and head towards Bakeri Township in Vejalpur covering a distance of around 11 kilometers. The rally will highlight its message with slogans like ‘environment is our attitude’ and ‘good planets are hard to find.' Also, more than 50 saplings at institutes like CN Vidyalaya and ISRO and at a few residential complexes will be planted.

President of Sepia, Parth Raval said, “The event will become a platform where different people with similar objectives of saving the nature come together to discuss, network and take the issue further ahead."
