After city-based communication school MICA decided to have IPL-style trading for their in-house cricket tournament, management mecca IIMA is following suit.

Confluence 2010, which is slated to be the flagship event for IIMA’s golden jubilee celebrations, will introduce a number of grey cell-scratching events, one of which will be based on the IPL trading model.

Elaborating on this competition, spokesperson Gaurav Saraf said that this will be a trading event where players and teams will be traded on a portal. "Three IPL matches will go on simultaneously on a screen, and 66 players will be traded. Students from all city colleges can participate, the only parameter being a sound knowledge of cricket," he said.

However, Saraf added that in each team of four students, at least one will be an IIMA student. "This inclusion is with the intention of increasing interaction between students of IIMA and other colleges," he informed.

The teams will buy players on the basis of their current market price. If players perform better than their current market price, the team makes a profit. The team that makes the maximum profit from trading will be declared the winner.

"Each team will be given virtual money with which they will have to buy their players. The buying will be on the basis of the players’ scoresheets," said Saraf.

"Moreover, the screen on which matches will be shown will be refreshed every 75 seconds. Hence, the teams will have to trade in the first 60 seconds, and in the remaining 15, the players’ records, news splashes and judgements will be made", Saraf added.

Confluence is in its twelfth edition, and has "Inspiring innovations, Expanding horizons" as its theme. Talks and discussions will be based on the innovations that changed the society in the past and on the new innovations that will be needed in the future.

Apart from IPL trading, Confluence is also making an effort to address social and policy issues through its events like ‘Campaign for a Cause’. Here, students will get an opportunity to share their views on innovation and its impact on the society.
