Ibobi Singh elected Manipur CLP leader

Senior Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh was today unanimously elected Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Manipur, and he could take oath as Chief Minister for a third consecutive term as early as tomorrow.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary P Shashikanta said 63-year-old Ibobi Singh was elected leader of the CLP at a meeting of the newly-elected legislators.

The meeting was presided over by AICC General Secretary L Faleiro.

Congress sources said Ibobi Singh may be sworn in as chief minister tomorrow.

The sources said the party high command decided to support Ibobi Singh, who was assisted by state Congress chief Gaikhangam for the Congress to win a two thirds majority in the 60-member House.

The Congress won 42 seats, one more than the required 41 for two thirds majority in the assembly.
