"It was becoming impossible to live a peaceful life in the family. My father created a situation in which I could not think of anything except killing him. He used to beat me in public and at home, he vented his anger on my brother and my mother. He created a ruckus every day. So I stabbed him to death."

In what could be as the destruction of the very foundation of the relationship between a father and a son, an 18-year old boy who stabbed his father to death in the early, tranquil hours of Thursday, confessed these lines while speaking about his crime to the police.

Young and ambitious, and like most of such sons, he also wanted to come out of the poverty he had inherited. He was not at all happy with his father's video parlour where the duo used to sell and rent DVD of movies and songs.

Beside, he used to get beaten up by his father over trivial issues in public and sometimes in the presence of customers. According to nearby shopkeepers, the father-son duo always used to fight even in the shop.

"I don't know what exactly he wanted to do but on many occasions he said that he wanted to do something different. Something that his father did not approve of. He also wanted to expand his business and bring some innovative ideas at his shop," said a close friend of Kaushik.

According to psychologists, the incident is a clear case of poor parenting, lack of communication and educational disturbances as well.

"In the absence of values which normally come through good parenting, communication and education, one takes such a dreadful step. The continuous beatings may have made the accused aggressive. Sometimes random suggestions from peers, mother's favour among others, can also force some to take similar steps," said consulting psychologist, Dr Prashant Bhimani.

The biggest problem the family will face now is the fact that there is no one to take care of them. After his father, Kaushik was the only bread earner of the family. However, in his absence, the family will suffer. Ironically, Kaushik's younger brother Krish is just 11 years old and mentally challenged.
