Three days after the suicide of a range forest officer (RFO) the police claim to have started investigation in the case. On Friday, a couple of close associates of the RFO are said to have been grilled by the Adalaj police. However, cops refused to identify them.
According to Adalaj police inspector Mukesh Chaudhary who is investigating the case, the probe is being delayed because of the holidays. He said the three accused including Gujarat Ecological Education and Research (GEER) Foundation director Bharat Pathak, deputy director NK Nanda and DFO Suman Gurjar were not available for questioning on Friday, because of this.
However, Chaudhary said he has made inquiries about some close associates of RFO Yadavendrasinh Chauhan, 44, whose dead body was found in the Narmada Canal in Gandhinagar. He added that as of now the probe is on to check the authenticity of the allegations made by the deceased's father, including the approval of the project and fund transfers.
Chandansinh Chauhan, father of Yadavendra, has alleged that the three GEER officials were harassing his son. These officials have been booked for abetment of suicide and criminal conspiracy (IPC-306, 114 and 120B).
The real challenge before the police is to find the reason behind the sanctioning of Rs10 lakh for a project without any paper work.
This is said to have caused much trouble to the RFO who was desperately asking for the money he had spent in the butterfly project at Indroda Nature Park in Gandhinagar. An official close to the RFO told DNA that Yadavendra was a 'clean man' and quite passionate about his work. He said the project on which RFO was working had got approval from the former director of the foundation, CN Pandey. Soon after this, the project work began and picked up pace when the problem started brewing.
