Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said that the government had definite information that some people were taking cows from Himachal Pradesh to other states for slaughter.
The Himachal Pradesh government will soon bring comprehensive legislation on cow protection and if required an ordinance could also be promulgated, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said today.
Inaugurating a two-day conference of deputy commissioners and superintendents of police, he said the government had definite information that some people were taking cows from Himachal Pradesh to other states for slaughter.
Dhumal asked officers to ensure that the policies, programmes and decisions of the government were immediately and effectively implemented.
He asked them to frequently inspect and monitor the ongoing schemes in the field and ensure timely completion.
Dhumal said the state government had increased the insurance cover for critical illness up to Rs1.70 lakh.
