The high-level committee headed by justice (retd) BN Srikrishna on Telangana will have its first meeting here tomorrow.

The five-member Committee is expected to finalise a road map to proceed on the emotive issue, which has deeply divided the political parties in Andhra Pradesh.

The seven-point terms of reference has mandated the committee to "examine the situation in the state of Andhra Pradesh with reference to the demand for a separate state of Telangana as well as the demand for maintaining the present status of a united Andhra Pradesh."

The committee has been asked to submit its report by December 31 this year.

The meeting takes place against the backdrop of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, who has been spearheading the Telangana agitation, today charging the Centre with "betraying" the people once again and directing all his party MPs, MLAs and MLCs to resign from their posts immediately.

Soon after announcement of the terms of reference, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Osmania University students gave a call for a day-long bandh in Telangana tomorrow in protest against the terms of reference of the committee.

"The terms of reference (ToR) are totally against (the formation of) Telangana. The Centre should immediately disband the Committee and introduce a bill in Parliament straightaway for creation of a separate state," the JAC, spearheading the students' movement for a separate Telangana state, said in a statement.

The committee includes Ranbir Singh, Abusaleh Shariff, Ravinder Kaur and former Home Secretary Vinod K Duggal as member-secretary.
