Heavy rains lash Punjab and Haryana

Heavy rains today lashed many places in Punjab and Haryana affecting normal life even as people living along the swollen Yamuna river have been asked to remain vigilant.
 
Chandigarh was lashed by heavy rains this morning thus affecting normal life.
 
Office goers and school children were the worst hit as pools of water got collected on the roads affecting vehicular traffic.
 
Some flights from here also got delayed due to bad weather conditions.
 
People living along the Yamuna have been asked to remain alert following release of over 3.25 lakh cusecs of water into the river from Hathni Kund barrage near Yamunanagar yesterday.

District administrations of Yamunanagar, Karnal, Sonepat, Panipat, Faridabad and Palwal have been alerted, while state irrigation officials are keeping constant vigil on the embankments of Yamuna, officials said.
 
Sonepat district had been divided into twenty sectors to keep a vigil on the rising water-level in Yamuna, deputy commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi said.
 
A control room has also been set up in the office of deputy commissioner to give information about rising level of water in Yamuna.
 
In Haryana, Rohtak (42.2 mm), Bhiwani (19.2 mm), Karnal (11.8 mm), Panipat (26 mm), Sonepat (28 mm), Kalayat (65 mm), Rewari (19 mm), Fatehabad (9 mm), Jind (14 mm), Yamunanagar (51 mm), Hisar (63 mm) and Panchkula (15 mm) were lashed by heavy showers.
 
Mohali (16 mm), Amritsar (3.1 mm), Ludhiana (1.8 mm), Barnala (21.6 mm), Hoshiarpur (40 mm), Mukerian (21.1 mm), Ropar (6 mm) and Balachaur (25.2 mm) in Punjab also received rains.
