It’s been over a month that Fazuriddin Sirdarkhan, 51, a sarpanch of the Doha village in Mewat district of Haryana, has been touring the country. Reason - he is in search of a minor girl who is alleged to have been abducted by a boy of the village. The hunt has now brought him to Ahmedabad.

The girl is believed to have been abducted by one Younis Vahala, who is already married and has two children. Sirdarkhan, who is currently in Gujarat, is hopeful of finding the girl soon and taking her back home. After searching various places in Harayana, Sirdarkhan left for Rajasthan and is now planning to visit Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh as well.

“When the news spread that both the girl and the boy were missing, a major altercation ensued between the two families. As the sarpanch of the village, I decided to intervene and took the responsibility to find the girl and bring her back to her family,” said Sirdarkhan.

He added that, “the girl and the boy are from the Mewati community in Haryana. However, since the community is comprised mainly of landlords, and is found in other states too, I decided to widen my search and visit all the other states,” he said.

The parents of the missing girl lodged a complaint of abduction at the Doha police station. According to the complaint, on August 22, the girl, aged 14, had stepped out of the house for some work when she was allegedly enticed by Younis Vahala.

Complaint has also been registered against five relatives of the accused who allegedly abetted the abduction. Sirdarkhan said that Younis used to work as a teacher in a Madrassa in the area. He said, “I also took out the mobile phone record of Younis which shows that after August 22, the SIM was not used and is not active anymore.” He, however, said that the police were co-operative and are investigating the issue.

“We do not know where our daughter is at this point of time. We have registered an FIR against the accused, but we are yet to know where they are,” Hamid Khan, the father of the girl told DNA.

When contacted, ASI Rajkumar of the Doha police station, who is also the investigating officer of the case, said, “The duo is not in Haryana. They are also not to be found in areas that surround Haryana. We believe that they have left the state.”
