Attacking BJP and chief minister Narendra Modi for accusing Congress and UPA at every public meeting, Congress leaders on Thursday alleged that Modi had been misleading people in the name of development. Party leaders claimed that the state government was earning popularity by claiming projects sanctioned by UPA as their initiative.

Congress leaders - Bharatsinh Solanki and in-charge of GPCC Rajiv Shukla - were in Surat on Thursday to review party's preparations for the upcoming civic polls. Both the leaders held meetings with party workers and candidates and guided them about steps to be taken during campaign and polling. Later in the evening, the duo addressed a press conference, where they targeted Modi and the BJP.

Solanki charged the state government with committing frauds in various schemes and alleged that Modi was creating communal hatred among people. He urged voters to give Congress a chance to experience better and transparent administration in SMC.

"CM is raising Sohrabuddin issue at every election rally, which suggests that he is afraid of possible consequences in the case. We never made Sohrabuddin case an issue in elections, but instead the BJP is raising the issue again and again. They are misleading people just to stay in power," Solanki added.
Commenting on BJP's victory at Kathlal, Solanki said that party is reviewing the matter.

Rajiv Shukla admitted that Congress is weak in Gujarat, but claimed that party would emerge winner in Surat civic polls.
"Victory margin between Congress and BJP candidates is very thin and we want to eliminate the margin. Party is gradually growing in the state and it will come into power in the next term. Party's performance in Surat will be much better than last year," Shukla added.
