The Ahmedabad rural police said they have solved the murder mystery of a land dealer Sanjay Chauhan who was found dead in his car near Khatripur on Uttarayan this year.

According to police, the land dealer was killed by a live-in couple.
As for the motive the police believe that it happened either because Chauhan made some lewd comments about the couple, or they had already planned to rob and kill him.

Police claim that after killing the land dealer the couple made away with valuables including three mobile phones worth Rs2 lakh to Rs3 lakh. The valuables were later recovered from the couple's possession.

The accused couple was identified as Pravin Vankar, and Dipika Shrimali, both residents of Radhanpur, Patan district.

They were arrested in the wee hours of Friday by a team of local crime branch officials led by sub-inspector Rajesh Gadhiya. Vankar had used Chauhan's mobile to send a message to Shrimali. The police then traced the mobile to Radhanpur and found that the message was sent to Shrimali.

They soon got hold of Shrimali and then Vankar thus solving the case.

"The case was challenging for us as we didn't have any lead in the case. At present it seems Chauhan was murdered either because he made some lewd comments about Shrimali or the couple killed him to rob him," said Sandeep Singh, district superintendent of police, Ahmedabad rural.

Chauhan had come to Ahmedabad from his village on January 13. The very next day he left for his native Dholka. On the way at Sanathal crossroads, SG Highway, a couple asked him for a ride. Chauhan gave them a ride but made Shrimali sit besides him. He then began making lewd comments about her and asked for her mobile number, Singh said.

"Dipika complained of nausea and Chauhan stopped the car. In the meanwhile, Pravin strangled Chauhan from behind and killed him. The couple drove off in the car and dumped it in Khtripur village after the vehicle broke down. They then escaped from the scene," Singh said. He said the couple is being interrogated and they will know the full details by Tuesday.
