On Tuesday, around 100 parents of class 11 science stream students met state education minister Ramanlal Vora and officials of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) to demand grace marks for their wards. They were demanding 16 grace marks for questions in the chemistry paper which were outside the syllabus.

Later in the evening, GSHEB announced that Gujarati medium students will get 8 grace marks for 4 questions which had all incorrect options while English medium students will be given 5 grace marks for three questions which had all incorrect options.
From this year, the board has introduced semester system examination which has multiple choice questions. The communiqué from Dr KR Zanzrukiya said that the decision about grace marks was taken keeping in mind the mistakes in the paper as well as a student's future. Parents, meanwhile, are not happy with the decision.

"We are not happy with the board's decisions and will further extend our protest if the 16 grace marks are not given," said a parent Hemal Shah.

Manish Doshi, spokesperson for the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) said it is the government's duty to smoothly implement the new semester system. "Semester system was implemented to lessen burden on students. The board has failed to inform school teachers and students about the change. We demand action against those responsible for the blunder," he said.
