These are some of the queries faced by officials handling the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) helpline for the students of classes X and XII. As the board activated its helpline from February 23 to counsel students appearing for the board exams starting from March 5, students and parents call up senior teachers and psychologists to tackle stress, solve query and get information on colleges and seating arrangements in the examination centre.

An official at the board said that they have got as many as 1,800 calls, which means an average of 300 calls a day. They said that not just worried students but even some of the parents call up for advice on how their children can improve their performance to get more marks in exams.

"I got a call from a student who was so confused that he couldn't remember anything that he read. After hearing his complaints, I advised him to read and write with a cool mind. Another student's parent called up complaining that the space provided in the paper is not enough for maths calculation. So I explained the methodology to him and advised him to bring the student to my office if there was any problem," said one of the teachers attending the calls.

He said that they advise students to relax and not to run around seeking important questions for the exams. "If you have studied throughout the year with thorough concentration, there is no need to panic. Just believe in yourself and remember that marks in board exam are not as important as your life," said the teacher explaining his way of counselling students.

He said that students also call to check their examination centre, seating arrangements and details about writing the paper. A team of three teachers and a psychology teacher counsels students and parents, said the official.
