On Saturday, the temperature rose appreciably over north Gujarat and Ahmedabad was badly hit with the maximum climbing to 44.4 degree Celsius, raising fears of another scorching time for denizens of the city.

Ahmedabad was not isolated in this rise in temperature as the mercury also went up sharply in other parts of north Gujarat and Kutch, as a fall-out of the heat wave which has struck the state.

The temperatures were marked above normal over the entire region. Deesa, which has often topped the 'most hot' list, once again recorded a temperature which was higher than any other place in the state -- 46 degree Celsius. Idar, which also has the dubious distinction of getting scorched in Gujarat and this season recorded the highest temperature in the country, had a highest of 45 on Saturday.

But the state stands sharply divided between summer and monsoon weather zones as scattered rainfall occurred at isolated places over south Gujarat and Saurashtra, giving much-needed relief to citizens of those areas.

Dr. Kamaljit Ray, director, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Gujarat, said, "Heat wave has hit the state again and this is expected to be the last of the season. The north-westerly winds are forecasted to change from June 14 onwards and with this change the effects of heat wave would slacken off.

The temperatures are expected to drop with the onset of monsoon which is expected to set in after June 15. The heat wave effects will continue till the onset of monsoon and the temperatues are expected to increase in the next two days."

The IMD forecasts that weather will be mainly sunny in all districts of  north Gujarat region and Kutch and heat wave conditions will continue in parts of north Gujarat in the next two days.

Light to moderate rain will fall at isolated places in all districts of south Gujarat, Saurashtra & in Diu, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli.
