A youth shot dead his neighbour in Lucknow after she refused to accept his friendship proposal and then shot at himself, in the second such incident this week.

Eighteen-year-old Sakshi Singh, a Class XII student of New Public Inter College, was shot dead this morning by Ashish Verma, 25, after they had a heated argument over accepting his friendship proposal, police said.

"Eyewitnesses said that Verma wanted Sakshi to sit on his motorcycle but she not only declined the offer but also scolded the guy for his act," police said.

Verma shot dead Sakshi and immediately fled from the scene. He later shot at himself and was rushed to the Trauma centre, where his condition was stated to be critical, they said.

The incident comes close on the heels of a CRPF jawan killing a national-level female Kabbadi player on February 9 after she refused to share her mobile number with him. The jawan had later shot at himself.
