An 18-year-old second year student of bachelor of arts hanged herself at her residence in Azad Society at Akshat Apartments in Satellite. The victim was identified as Garima Dubey, daughter of a customs and central excise officer Dinesh Dubey. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon.

Her family said Garima took the extreme step as she missed her father who had been transferred to Bhopal four months ago. The victim's elder brother Gaurav (19) in his statement to the police said that Garima was very disturbed after her father got transferred. He said she was missing her father.

Gaurav and his mother saw Garima hanging from the ceiling of the pooja room of their residence. Gaurav told police that he and his mother had gone to a relative's house in Girdhar Park Society in Satellite. The duo had locked Garima in the house.

"She did not want to come with us. She wanted to stay at home and so we locked her inside with her permission," he told police. However, the police say there could be more to the case than what meets the eye.

"No suicide note was found near the body. So we need to investigate to find out what exactly led the victim to take the extreme step," a source with the Satellite police said.

The source said cops are also probing the love angle. "But, we are yet to get any specific lead in the case so far," said the source. "We have not ruled out the chance of a love affair which might have forced the girl to commit suicide," the official said.

Garima is a student of SYBA in a city college and allegedly was in a relationship with a boy. Her family had reportedly opposed the relationship and hence she may have been locked in the house, a police source told DNA.
