With a large number of NRI aspirants in the state, and most of them preferring the Gandhinagar centre, this branch of the institute has earned the record of having the highest number of NRI students, among all of the 13 NIFT centres across the country.
A total of 35 NRI students took admission in NIFT Gandhinagar in different courses this year. Twenty-seen of them are from Gujarat.
The NIFT headquarters in Delhi made a special provision for NIFT Gandhinagar this year, in light of the high response of NRI students in the centre.
Though each centre of NIFT is usually allowed a reservation of only five NRI seats in each discipline, the Fashion Design department of NIFT Gandhinagar has been
allotted 25 NRI seats.
Speaking about the development, director of NIFT Gandhinagar, Sameeta Rajora, said, "This year, after the director general of NIFT learnt about the high number of NRI students applying here and their preference to study in the Gandhinagar centre, the Fashion Design department of the Gandhinagar centre has been
allotted 25 seats for NRIs."
The NRI seats that were lying unoccupied in the other centres of NIFT have been transferred to the Gandhinagar centre. Rajora said, "The fund accruing from the fees collected from these NRI students will be used for the development of NIFT Gandhinagar."
Neha Kodwani, a student who took admission in the Fashion Design programme of the institute on an NRI seat, has her own boutique, called Nehu's Designer Studio, in Ahmedabad.
Speaking about her preference for the Gandhinagar centre, Kodwani said, "I prefer to study at the Gandhinagar centre, so that I can continue running my boutique, along with my studies."
Another student, Kayal Parakh, said, "NIFT Gandhinagar has always been known for its high quality. I have visited other NIFT centres myself and I rate this centre the best, in terms of quality and facilities."
