Gaiety, goodwill mark Eid preparations in Ahmedabad

After observing strict fast and abstaining from food for the entire day during the holy month of ‘Ramzan’, Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. This festival is celebrated with traditional gaiety and expression of brotherhood across the country.

During the holy month of Ramzan, people observe strict fast during the whole day and at night they end their fast with the family. While devotees eat before sunrise and after sunset, it provides them a great opportunity to dine with family and friends.
Mohd Harun Ahmed Siddiqui, Shahi Imam at Jama Masjid of Manek Chowk said, “The festive mood on Eid-ul-Fitr is great.

Muslim men offer namaaz at Masjid in morning and greet each other.” He said the last day is celebrated as a feast.
Sheer kurma and non-vegetarian delicacies are prepared on Eid-ul-Fitr. People wear new clothes, exchange Eid greetings apart from visiting friends’ houses in the evening.

They will often visit bazaars and shopping malls with their families for Eid shopping. Women, especially younger girls, often apply the traditional mehendi, or henna, on their hands and feet and wear colourful bangles.
