It may have been the magic wand with which Munnabhai MBBS solved most of his problems, but real-life characters, it seems, are not all that keen on embracing the gandhigiri concept.

Four senior students of BJ Medical College were arrested by the Shahibaug police on Saturday, after they harassed and beat up their juniors - all in the name of fun.

A junior medico, fed up of the torment, lodged a complaint, resulting in the arrests.

According to the police, the senior students had been creating trouble for the juniors over the last two days. However, the junior medicos remained tightlipped about the harassment, taking the college's reputation into consideration.
However, at 1.30 am on Saturday, the seniors seem to have picked a fight with one Navneet Agrawal.

Tired of the group's behaviour, Agrawal reportedly called up the number 100 (police helpline) and filed an application with the Shahibaug police.

"The complainant has alleged that he was being threatened by the group. There is no specific reason as such behind the incident, but it appears that the seniors group used to torment Agrawal and other juniors just for fun. They would slap them, abuse them and threaten them that they (the juniors) will be killed," said police inspector NB Nagori.

According to sources, there are only four senior students in the college, while around 60 junior students study in the current batch. Sources added that those arrested are Mandeep Tadha, Arun Pratap Singh, Umpakar Singh and Kapildev Chahar. This group is reported to harass the juniors on a regular basis.

"We were told that several other students were also fed up of these errant four, but they did not dare approach the police. However, Agrawal chose to break the silence, and we arrested the accused," said a source close to the case.

Sources added that in the morning, the junior students tried to solve the matter mutually and wanted to take the complaint back. However, the police produced the four students before the magistrate. They said that the accused needed to give a declaration that they will not repeat this behaviour in future.
