Forty-two fresh cases of dengue in Delhi, total 627

Over 1,300 people, including contractors of three Commonwealth Games projects, were challaned by MCD after it detected mosquito breeding on their premises even as 42 fresh cases of dengue were reported from the city today.

The total number of dengue cases has touched 627 with the reporting of the 42 fresh cases, an MCD official said.

According to the official, a total of 1,335 people were challaned after mosquito breeding was detected on their premises during a special drive since yesterday.

Those challaned include contractors of three Commonwealth Games projects, the official said.

"We have challaned contractors of projects at Khanna Stadium, Khel Gaon and Commonwealth Games Village after breeding of mosquito was detected," the official said.

Delhi has seen a surge in the number of dengue cases over the last fortnight when 20 to 23 cases per day on an average were registered. Two persons have died due to the disease so far this season.

Officials said the civic body has created task forces for all 12 zones of the MCD, for carrying out fogging operations and door-to-door drive to check breeding of mosquitoes.

Last year, 1,070 dengue cases and two deaths were reported in the city.
