Former Delhi unit chief of Shiv Sena seeks security

Former Shiv Sainik Jai Bhagwan Goel has moved the Delhi high court seeking direction to the government to provide security claiming that he has received threat calls originating from Dubai and Jammu and Kashmir.

Filing a petition, Goel, who was the Delhi unit chief of Shiv Sena and formed Rashtrawadi Sena in May last year, claimed that he got the threat call in September from Jammu besides receiving similar threats from Dubai earlier.

He was in news after Shiv Sainiks dug up the Ferozshah Kotla stadium opposing the Indo-Pak cricket match in 1999, destroyed Valentine greeting cards, and shut down some restaurants which organised special programmes for couples on Valentine's Day in 2005.

Goel said he has been apprehending threat to his life as he had actively participated in the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992, besides vehemently opposing activities of Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi).

Goel also brought to the court's notice that he, being a Shiv Sena activist, had opposed the unauthorised stay of Bangladeshis in the national capital and supported the NDA government's attempt to deport them.

Seeking direction to the government to provide police security to him, he said "It is the duty of the state to provide security to the public."

Goel said earlier he was provided with a security officer, who was withdrawn in November 2008 by the government without assigning any reason.

Justice GS Sistani now fixed November 26 as the date for hearing of the petition.
