Foreign liquor worth Rs57 k seized, one held

Liquor was hidden in drawers created between seats of a Tavera car.

The crime branch on Tuesday arrested one Girish Patel, a resident of Unjha with bottles and pouches of Indian Made Foreign Liquor. The total cost of the seizure is estimated to be around Rs57,000.

Patel was caught on the Ahmedabad-Baroda express highway following a tip-off.  The police were on the look out for a Tavera carrying the liquor.

Patel was driving the Tavera.  Sources said Patel hid the liquor bottles in 'drawers' created between the seats.

They said Patel has been in the business for almost 4 years and has never been caught before. Earlier Patel used to work in an Angadiya firm which employed the same modus operandi in hiding cash while it was taken to Nasik in Maharashtra.

Initially when Patel entered the liquor business he used to carry the liquor in ST buses from Nasik to Ahmedabad.

 In another incident, the crime branch recovered 94 bottles of IMFL worth Rs28,000 at Geeta Mandir.  The police had been tipped off about a Maruti Zen carrying the consignment.

Three people Natwar Thakur, a resident of Prem Darwaja, Madhavpura, Dinesh Thakore, a resident of Geeta Mandir and one Mohammad Abad Rajput were arrested from the car. Police also found 2 pistol worth Rs13,000 and 30 bullets on them.
