Fire in Lucknow institute; patients safe

A fire broke out in the emergency ward of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute (SGPGI) today, reducing to ashes equipment worth lakhs, and causing panic among patients.

The cause of fire is not yet known, police said.

Fire personnel immediately reached the spot and doused the flames, but by that time, they had caused considerable loss with the operation theatre and patient wards catching fire.

The institute's administration immediately shifted patients to safer places, and according to Monalisa Chowdhury, senior PRO of the institute, there was no casualty or injury due to the fire.

"PGI director RK Sharma has constituted an inquiry committee to ascertain the cause and losses caused due to the fire, and has asked it to submit its report within 24 hours", Chowdhury.
