"There are 26 injury marks in his body other than the bullet marks. They can't be anything but marks of torture and beating him. He had been beaten before the entire drama of encounter," Ravinder Singh, father of 22-year-old Ranbir, said.
"We are not satisfied. We want a CBI investigation into it (the killing). If the government orders it, then it is okay. Otherwise, we will press for it," he said.
A distraught Singh said he wanted "exemplary" punishment to those involved to prevent people from even thinking about such an act given the consequences. "I will fight for it," he said.
The body of the youth was brought here last night by road from Dehradun in neighbouring Uttaranchal.
Controversy broke out yesterday over his gunning down after he allegedly fled with a sub-inspector's revolver while his family claimed he was killed in a fake encounter. The incident triggered protests from family and opposition Congress, after which Uttaranchal chief minister RP Nishank handed over the probe to CB-CID into the killing.
Singh, who recently completed his MBA from Meerut University and was to join Kotak Mahindra, was killed in an encounter in Ladpur jungles in Dehradun, according to police. They had said yesterday that they were on high alert in view of president Pratibha Patel's visit and carried out strict checks of vehicles and persons.
SSP Dehradun, Amit Sinha, had claimed Singh and two others were riding a bike stolen from Haryana when they were asked to stop by GD Bhatt, a sub-inspector, at Dalanwala.
When the police searched their bag, a weapon was found in it, he had alleged. However, the youths overpowered Bhatt, snatched his revolver and fled. When the SI flashed a message over the wireless, the three were intercepted at another place and there was an encounter in which Ranbir was killed, Sinha had claimed.
Ranbir's father, however, had claimed his son was innocent. "There is no criminal record against my son. He was killed in a fake encounter because police officials want medals," he had told reporters.
Sinha had admitted Ranbir did not have any criminal record but the police is probing the antecdents of his companions.
